British-Bangladeshi actress Sophiya Haque passes away

British-Bangladeshi actress Sophiya Haque, who is known for her roles in Coronation Street and House of Anubis, died Wednesday at the age of 42. Haque died just weeks after being diagnosed with cancer.

"We are saddened by the death news of Sophiya. She was a vibrant and beautiful actress who was a pleasure to have around during her time on Coronation Street. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this very sad time,” ITV television said in a statement.
For those who do not know much about the late actress, who died Wednesday night after cancer, it should be noted that her artistic work was complex. Sophiya flirted with ballet and music, in addition to roles in various film productions. Sophiya was born to a British mother and Bangladeshi father. She was a singer, model, dancer, VJ and actress. She was the lead singer of 1989 band Akasa and had a hit single called One Night In My Life. She also appeared in West End productions like The Far Pavilions in London. She was also a popular VJ on Channel V in India in the 1990s and more recently appeared in the blockbuster movie Wanted.
Corrie star Antony Cotton (Sean Tully) tweeted: "Just on set and heard the news about Sophiya Haque. So effing sad. Night night kiddo x."
Michael Le Vell (Kevin Webster) also wrote on Twitter: "No way just heard about sophiya haque so sad. My heart goes out to the family."
Stuart Piper, of her agents Cole Kitchenn, said she was “one of the most inspirational people I ever met”.
He said: “She was the kind of person you always want to spend time with: full of light, warmth, compassion, care and with an infectiously wicked sense of humour, and I loved every minute of working with her.
“On stage, it was like you were watching her in close-up even if you were sat at the back of the stalls, such was her star presence and charisma.
“I am so desperately sad that she has been lost to the world at such a tragically young age, but feel blessed to have known her. Our whole team miss her greatly."
